What is PCR Packaging and Impact on the Environment

Publié par Kate Kim le

PCR means Post-Consumer Recycled material or Post Consumer Resin.  Generally, plastics such as PET, PP and HDPE are widely recycled and then reprocessed into a resin used to make new packaging. Basically, it is packaging that is being given a second life.

Using PCR material in packaging has a significant positive impact on the environment. Here are some additional points to consider:

  • The use of PCR reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the packaging industry.
  • PCR reduces the need for virgin materials, which conserves natural resources and reduces the energy required for extraction and processing.
  • By using PCR, companies can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and reduce their environmental impact, which can be a powerful marketing tool.
  • The quality of PCR materials has improved significantly in recent years, making it a viable option for high-quality packaging.
  • While PCR is not a perfect solution, it is a step in the right direction towards a more circular economy where waste is minimized and resources are conserved.
