Hemp seed oil has been loved and used all over the world for its various properties and benefits for centuries and as it gains in popularity it is important to distinguish its benefits from oil.

What is Hemp Seed oil

Where people usually get confused in reference to Hemp Seed oil is whether or not it contains drug like properties. The answer is no, it does not contain any psychoactive properties. The reason for this is that it is harvested from the Cannabis sativa plant, and just like any other type of plant there are varieties. Marijuana is one variety and Hemp is another. Each variety of plant has its associated properties. However, the psychoactive ingredient in Marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Hemp contains trace amounts of it, so little so that it will not produce any effects. Chemists that create Hemp Seed oil also reduce the amount of THC as there are laws limiting the amount of it that can be in a product.

Since there is little to trace amounts of THC this oil is completely safe and will not cause any psychoactive effects.

Hemp Seed oil is the oil derived from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. The seeds are cold pressed and this method of extracting is the most common and allows the properties of the oil to remain intact. The oil is either refined further, called refined Hemp Seed Oil, or left unrefined, called Unrefined Hemp Seed Oil.

Now that we know what Hemp Seed Oil is and is not we can look at the top 4 benefits of this super star oil!

Anti-inflammatory/antibacterial

This oil is rich in Gamma Linolenic Acid which is a form of Omega 6 fatty acids. This chain of molecules acts as anti-inflammatory agent which means it good for calming down irritation which means it can help in the process of wound healing. What is even better is that the oil has an anti-bacterial quality. That make it wonderful for those with acne! It will help reduce the inflammation of the acne lesion and the bacteria causing the breakout.

Its anti-inflammatory properties can help those with inflammatory conditions or to help heal wounds while discouraging the growth of bacteria with its antibacterial properties.

Regulates/balances skin barrier

It may seem odd to fight oil with oil but Hemp Seed oil can actually help to regulate and balance the oil and water content of the skin. This means that it is perfect for all types of skin even acne! As mentioned above it can help to fight bacteria and it can also keep hydration in your skin. This is because it forms a physical barrier on the skin stopping water from evaporating away. In turn it will help to decrease the amount of oil your skin produces due to dehydration.

Hemp Seed Oil is a dry oil, it will sink into the skin quickly and will not leave a greasy film.

Full of vitamins and antioxidants

Our skin deals with all sorts of things for day to day; wind, dust, extreme temperatures and sun! All of this puts stress on our skin which can cause premature aging! *gasp* Antioxidants are replenishers. They can help to fight free radical damage do to sun exposure, aging and other skin stressors. They can lessen the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation. In Hemp Seed oil there are  Omega 3s and 6s, linolenic acid, and vitamins A, C, and E. They are all essential to healthy skin function and they all act as antioxidants making your skin look refined and soft!

With Omega 3s, 6s, Vitamins A,C & E and many more healthy skin promoting factors Hemp seed can aid in  protecting your skin from premature aging.

Moisturizing

Oil is an emollient, which means it helps to soften the skin by providing hydration. It is also an occlusive, which means that it forms a layer. This layer can be a protective layer for the skin. This layer helps to keep the water in and provides moisture with an array of good for you molecules. It may help plump up fine lines due to dehydration and make the skin’s texture smooth and supple. The barrier that it forms also helps to keep out environmental hazards like dust and dirt which may assist in the skin's healing process.

Healthy skin starts with a properly functioning skin barrier, Hemp Seed oil can support a weak barrier promoting better retention of water in the skin.
